On the occasion of his visit to Paris, PETA sent King Charles III a delicious selection of terrines and vegetable foie gras , created by Michelin-starred chef Fabrice Biasiolo. The English monarch had taken the laudable decision to ban foie gras from all British royal residences and we call on him in a letter to extol the merits of faux gras to Emmanuel Macron, because “France, like England, must put an end to this production to favor delicious alternatives for which no one has suffered.”
Force-feeding, a cruel and painful technique
In its letter to the king, PETA once again welcomes his decision to ban foie gras from British royal residences. Foie gras is in fact the product of force-feeding, a cruel and painful technique: long metal tubes are pushed down the birds' throats in order to dump an enormous quantity of cereal directly into their stomachs to make their livers sick. This practice is so cruel that many countries already prohibit it and the European Union opposed it in 1998 with a directive.
In recent years, repeated episodes of avian flu have hit France, leading to massive culls. The production of foie gras is no longer tenable or profitable for French producers who are in great difficulty and it is clear that this sector has no future. It is high time to adapt accordingly and switch to plant-based alternatives. France must follow the example of the United Kingdom where the production of foie gras has been banned throughout the country since 2011, and put an end to this production to favor delicious alternatives for which no one has suffered.
What you can do
To no longer participate in the suffering of innocent geese and ducks, refuse to consume foie gras. There are now a variety of faux gras available as well as tasty DIY vegan foie gras recipes, like the one developed for PETA by Michelin-starred French chef Alexis Gauthier .
